Scoring

Collecting, organizing, and distributing judges’ decisions

In addition to timing events, in which results are determined by the speeds achieved by the competitors, United Sports Services also specializes in customized software and hardware used to track the scores of athletes whose performances are scored by judges.

For example, in snowboarding Swiss Timing has developed Live Judging software that features a Trick Selector function. It allows judges to record their scores during a rider’s run and transmit them directly to the head judge via a tablet device, making the results available less than a minute after the completion of a run.

We have also introduced a high-definition scoring system for figure skating. Each element presented by the skater is evaluated instantly and reviewed using our combined scoring and HD video replay system. Slow-motion magnified parts of certain images and return motion help the panel to define the base value of the elements. The panel of judges verifies quality by entering marks for the grade of execution (GOE). Judges can also review the skaters´ performances using the video replay system. Once the marks are entered on a touch screen tablet PC, the total element score is calculated and distributed to all the peripherals such as TV graphics, scoreboard, CIS, and Internet.

Swiss Timing has also created a new scoring system in cooperation with the International Association of Amateur Boxing (AIBA), which helps the referees correctly record points during each round of a boxing match.

Swiss Timing develops scoring soft- and hardware according to the needs of a wide range of sports, and the systems have played a key role in contributing to accuracy and fairness in result calculation .
